Internship at Ahoi Kapptn!: Five perspectives, lots of learnings
An internship is all about trying new things, gaining experience and finding out what working life actually looks like beyond university and school. Over the past few months, no fewer than five interns joined our crew in different areas: Noah, David, Anna, Lilli and Marlene. From design to web and mobile development to quality assurance, quite a lot was covered.
Time for a little look back: What did they work on, what did they take away from their time at Ahoi Kapptn! and which moments stuck with them the most?
From UI/UX to AI assistant: right in the thick of it
Our interns' tasks were as varied as their fields. Noah worked in design and, among other things, on the showreel for our new website, on an AI search and on UI/UX designs for various projects.
Anna's focus was also on UX/UI design. She developed UX flows and UI designs for client and internal projects, created social media graphics and gained first experience in quality assurance. With the design of our advent calendar, she also took on a larger print project for the first time.
David supported our QA team with manual testing of websites as well as Android and iOS apps. He also worked intensively on automated end-to-end tests with Playwright.
For Lilli, a lot revolved around AI: She further developed a self-built phone AI assistant, took care of its fine-tuning and also supported our web team.
Marlene strengthened our mobile team and mainly worked on implementing new versions for Android and iOS. She also gained insights into UI testing of mobile apps.
New skills and exciting insights
For Noah, Remotion was the big new thing, a tool for programming animations instead of building them the classic way in After Effects. Combined with Claude, he was able to create even complex animations much faster. What stuck with him most is how versatile AI has become as a personal assistant in everyday work.
David deepened his knowledge of QA and Playwright and gained a lot of experience working with AI at the same time. A particular highlight for him was the moment our E2E testing pipeline automatically reported failing tests, which were then analysed and in some cases fixed directly by a coding agent.
Lilli also dived into a topic that was completely new to her. Starting without any prior knowledge, she began developing the phone AI assistant and was able to work intensively with AI agents during her internship.
For Anna, it was above all the first real client projects and the processes within an agency that brought many new experiences. In UI design, she deepened her knowledge of spacing, visual hierarchy and crafting interfaces, learning a lot from exchanging ideas with our design team.
Marlene expanded her knowledge particularly in iOS development. UI testing of mobile apps was also new territory for her and offered exciting insights into another area of app development. She especially appreciated the opportunity to get to grips with previously unfamiliar technologies and learn new things.
The moments that stay
Besides new skills, an internship is of course also about the experiences beyond everyday tasks:
For Anna, that was her advent calendar project. From the first idea to the final print files, she designed it independently, even though print was completely new territory for her at first. All the better was the moment when the finished calendars finally arrived at the office and the digital design became a real product.
Lilli's highlight, on the other hand, had less to do with a project: After work, part of the team watched Apple's iPhone 17 event together, complete with pizza, bingo and, of course, lengthy discussions about the products presented.
And for David, of all things, an automated testing pipeline provided one of the most memorable moments. When tests find errors and AI helps analyse and fix them right away, you can be happy for once that something fails.
For Marlene, it was especially rewarding when the features and version updates she had worked on during her internship were finally released. After all the development work, seeing her own work actually in an app was a real highlight for her.
Five internships in three words
How different the experiences were also shows in the question of how to sum up their time at Ahoi Kapptn! in just three words:
Noah: self-directed, versatile, creative
David: educational, participative, recommendable
Anna: creative, varied, challenging
Lilli: community, family, pace
Marlene: interesting, versatile, community
And if the internship were an emoji?
To wrap up, we wanted to know a little more, or at least get the picture:
🤯 Noah: Because there were “mindblowing” moments again and again during his time at Ahoi Kapptn!, especially when it came to what AI can do these days.
🕵️ David: Because there was a lot to find in QA, and tracking down bugs taught him a lot along the way.
🧩 Anna: Because during her internship she got to work on various projects both independently and as part of the team, and felt like part of the bigger picture.
🏴☠️ Lilli: Because the pirate theme ran like a common thread through her internship: from the Ahoi Kapptn! logo to videos and meetings.
🖤 Marlene: Because the black heart is simply a perfect fit for Ahoi Kapptn!
Often just the beginning
An internship with us is often just the beginning: Many stay on board afterwards. Noah, for example, did two internships with us, and David started a part-time job with us alongside his studies after his internship.
Five interns, five different fields and plenty of new experiences. Thank you, Noah, David, Anna, Lilli and Marlene, for your support, your ideas and the time we spent together!
